Bobrick 518-225 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How do I tell if I need the left hand or right hand Bobrick B-518 shower seat?
Hand is called from inside the shower, facing the seat and the wall it folds against. The B-518-225 top is the left hand version. Bobrick builds the B-518 in both hands and the seat top is not symmetrical, so a left hand top will not sit correctly on a right hand frame. Check which way the seat projects from its wall mount before you order the replacement.
2) Can I replace just the padded top on a Bobrick shower seat instead of the whole unit?
That is exactly what the 518-225 is for. When the vinyl on a B-518 tears or the padding gets crushed, the mounting hardware and folding frame usually stay serviceable, so you swap the top and leave the wall anchoring alone. For a property manager or MRO buyer this avoids re-drilling the blocking in a tiled shower wall.
3) Does the Bobrick 518-225 include the seat frame or mounting brackets?
It is the padded top alone, the foam-over-plywood panel covered in naugahyde. The folding frame, legs, and wall mounting all stay with the B-518 already installed. If the frame itself is bent or the anchoring is failing, the top on its own will not solve it and you need the complete B-518 seat.
4) What is the Bobrick B-518 padded shower seat top actually made of?
Construction is 1-1/2 inch (38mm) closed-cell polyurethane foam over a 1/2 inch (13mm) plywood substrate, wrapped in white naugahyde, which is a water-resistant reinforced vinyl. Closed-cell foam does not soak up water the way open-cell foam does, which is why it holds up in a wet stall rather than staying damp between uses.
5) What color does the Bobrick B-518-225 shower seat top come in?
White naugahyde is the only cover offered on this replacement top. If you are refreshing seats across several units, they will all match one another, and they match the original white top supplied on the B-518.
