Bobrick 518116x28 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What length folding tub seat should I order for a standard bathtub?
The B-518116 folding bathtub seat comes in two lengths, 28 inch and 32 inch. The seating area is 15 inches wide, and the seat is meant to span the tub so it rests on the end of the bathtub. Measure across your tub at the seat height and pick the length that lets the far end land on the tub rim.
2) Is the Bobrick B-518116 tub seat ADA compliant?
Yes, the B-518116 folding bathtub seat is listed as ADA compliant. That matters for hotel accessible guest rooms, multi-family accessible units, and healthcare bathing rooms where a tub seat is required by the accessibility scoping.
3) Does this Bobrick tub seat fold up out of the way when it is not being used?
It does. The seat folds up flat against the wall, which keeps the tub usable for standing showers and for cleaning between turns. That is the practical difference between this and a fixed bench in a shared or rented bathroom.
4) What is the frame made of and will it rust in a wet bathroom?
The frame is zinc-plated 3/4 inch steel tubing with a white antibacterial vinyl coating over it. The vinyl is what the user contacts, so the seat stays warm to the touch rather than cold like bare stainless, and the coating covers the steel in the wet zone.
5) Is a vinyl coated folding tub seat better than a phenolic or stainless shower seat for my job?
Different application. This one is a bathtub seat, sized 15 inches wide to span a tub and land on the tub rim, and the vinyl over steel gives a warm surface for a residential or guest-room bath. A wall-hung shower seat with no tub support is what you want in a roll-in or transfer shower compartment where there is no tub edge to bear on.
6) Can I standardize on this seat across a whole property of tub units?
Yes, and that is the usual use. The white vinyl finish and folding action are the same on both the 28 inch and 32 inch versions, so a property with mixed tub widths can carry one look across all accessible units and just vary the length.
