Metallics JBBH65 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread does the Metallics JBBH65 hex bolt take, and will a standard 1/2 inch nut fit it?
The JBBH65 is a 1/2-13 bolt, 13 threads per inch, cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1. That is standard 1/2 inch UNC coarse thread, so any standard 1/2-13 nut or tapped 1/2-13 hole will take it. Nuts are not included with the jar.
2) Why use a silicon bronze hex bolt instead of galvanized or stainless steel?
Silicon bronze is the usual choice where corrosion and galvanic compatibility matter, grounding and bonding connections, marine or wet locations, and anywhere the bolt lands on bronze or copper hardware so you do not set up a dissimilar metal couple. The JBBH65 is solid silicon bronze with a bronze finish, made to ASTM F468 (the standard covering nonferrous bolts for general use), and Metallics lists it for the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC trades.
3) Does the Metallics JBBH65 silicon bronze bolt meet Buy American or ARRA requirements?
No. The JBBH65 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, and country of origin is listed as multiple. If your job carries a domestic-sourcing clause, this bolt will not satisfy it.
4) What size wrench or socket does the JBBH65 bolt head need?
The hex head measures 0.736 to 0.750 inches across the flats, which is a 3/4 inch wrench or socket. Head height runs 0.302 to 0.323 inches. The bolt is dimensioned to ASME B18.2.1, so it matches standard hex bolt prep and clearances.
5) How many bolts come in a jar of Metallics JBBH65, and can I buy just a few?
The JBBH65 ships as a jar of 50, and the order minimum is 50 each, so one jar is the smallest buy. Metallics does make other sizes and quantities of these silicon bronze hex bolts available by request.
6) What does a jar of 50 of these bolts weigh for shipping or stocking on a truck?
A full jar of 50 JBBH65 bolts is listed at 6.54 lbs, with the jar itself at 3.5 x 3.5 x 5.75 inches. Easy to keep a couple on the service van without eating shelf space.
