Metallics SBH671 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Metallics SBH671 hex bolt used for on the job?
It is a general purpose 1/2-13 stainless hex bolt aimed at electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work: strut and channel hardware, pipe hangers and clamps, equipment and unit mounting, rooftop curbs and condenser frames. The 316 alloy is the reason to reach for it over plated carbon steel on anything exposed to weather or chemicals.
2) How many bolts come in a box of Metallics SBH671?
They ship 100 to a box, and 100 count is the order minimum, so it is bought by the full box rather than loose pieces. Other sizes and quantities can be arranged by request.
3) Is the Metallics SBH671 bolt Buy American and ARRA compliant for a government job?
The SBH671 is flagged compliant for both Buy American and ARRA. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your contract requires documented origin on the specific lot, get that confirmed against the shipment paperwork.
4) Should I use a 316 stainless bolt or a galvanized one for outdoor HVAC mounting?
For exterior and wet service the 316 stainless SBH671 is the safer call: the molybdenum alloy resists corrosion better than 18-8 stainless, let alone a plated finish that can lose its coating at the cut threads. Where the bolt is indoors, dry, and the load is high, a hardened carbon steel bolt gives more strength than this bolt's 65,000 psi minimum yield. Also keep stainless away from direct contact with dissimilar metals where galvanic corrosion is a concern.
5) Is a nut and washer included with Metallics SBH671 hex bolts?
No. The box of 100 is bolts only, a hex head machine bolt with no nuts or washers packed in. Order matching 1/2-13 hex nuts and 1/2 inch flat or lock washers separately, and in 316 stainless as well if you are using these for corrosion resistance.
