1) What thread does the Metallics SBH90 3/4 inch hex bolt take, and what nut do I need?
The SBH90 is a 3/4 inch hex bolt with 10 threads per inch, which is 3/4-10 UNC coarse thread. Pair it with a 3/4-10 coarse nut; a 3/4-16 fine-thread nut will not run on it. Measured shank diameter is 0.7410 to 0.7500 inch.
2) Is the Metallics SBH90 hex bolt stainless, and will it hold up outdoors or in a wash-down area?
It is 18-8 stainless steel, an austenitic alloy used where general atmospheric corrosion resistance is needed, including chemical and food-processing equipment. That covers normal exterior and wash-down duty. Aggressive chemical exposure or chloride-heavy environments may call for 316 stainless or other special corrosion-resistant material instead.
3) Is a stainless hex bolt like the SBH90 strong enough for structural strut and hanger work?
The 18-8 stainless hex bolt runs 85,000 to 140,000 psi minimum tensile with 45,000 psi minimum yield, and hardness of Rockwell B80 to C32. That is in the range of a general-purpose fastener, not a high-strength Grade 8 or ASTM A325 structural bolt. For strut channel, pipe hangers, equipment mounting and similar electrical, plumbing and HVAC work it is the usual choice, with corrosion resistance being the reason to pick it. If the drawing calls out a specific structural bolt grade, use that instead.
4) Will the SBH90 bolt work on a federally funded job with Buy American requirements?
No. The SBH90 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, with country of origin listed as multiple. On a job with domestic-sourcing requirements you need a documented domestic hex bolt instead.
