1) Are these bolts strong enough for hanging pipe and electrical supports?
They're rated at 60,000 psi minimum tensile with a hardness of Rockwell B69 to B100, which is standard low-carbon steel bolt territory. That covers typical electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning support work. If your drawing calls out a higher grade bolt for a structural or seismic connection, this is not that bolt.
2) Do Metallics JHTB33 bolts meet Buy American requirements on a federal job?
No. The JHTB33 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, with multiple countries of origin. If your contract carries a domestic sourcing clause, this bolt won't satisfy it.
3) What wrench or socket size do I need for these 1/2-13 hex tap bolts?
Head width across the flats runs 0.725 to 0.750 inch, so a 3/4 inch socket or wrench is the one to grab. Head height is in the 0.302 to 0.364 inch range, which matters if you're working in a shallow strut channel or under a tight fitting.
4) Will zinc plated steel tap bolts hold up outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
