Metallics BBH127 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread does the Metallics BBH127 hex bolt take, and will a standard 1/2-13 nut fit it?
The BBH127 is a 1/2-13 hex bolt, 13 threads per inch, cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1. Any standard 1/2-13 UNC nut or tapped hole will thread onto it. For a silicon bronze bolt you normally want a matching bronze nut rather than plain steel, so the fastener and the nut corrode at the same rate in a wet or grounded assembly.
2) Why use a silicon bronze bolt instead of galvanized or stainless steel?
Silicon bronze is the usual choice for grounding and bonding work and for outdoor or damp assemblies where dissimilar-metal corrosion is a concern. It sits close to copper electrically, so it won't set up the galvanic reaction you get bolting copper bus, lugs, or ground plates with galvanized steel. The BBH127 is bronze finish, bronze material, and built to ASTM F468 for nonferrous bolting.
3) How thick a stack-up will a 7 inch 1/2-13 bronze bolt clamp?
The BBH127 runs 7 inches in length, which covers deep stack-ups: timber-to-timber grounding connections, through-bolting a pole or crossarm, or clamping multiple plates plus a washer and nut. Allow for washer and nut height off that 7 inches when you figure usable grip. If your joint is thinner, a shorter length in the same BBH series is the better call rather than running excess thread past the nut.
4) Does the Metallics BBH127 bolt meet Buy American and ARRA requirements on a public job?
Metallics lists the BBH127 as both Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant. Country of origin is China. On federally funded work, confirm which standard your contract actually invokes, since Buy American compliance flags and domestic-melt requirements are not always the same test.
5) How many bolts come in a box of Metallics BBH127, and can I buy just one?
They ship as a box of 10, and 10 is the order minimum, sold by the count. There is no single-piece break on it. Box weight for the 10 is 4.11 lbs.
6) I need a different length or diameter in the same bronze hex bolt, not 1/2-13 x 7. Is that available?
Yes. The BBH and JBBH silicon bronze hex bolt series runs other diameters, lengths and pack quantities, available on request. The BBH127 is the 1/2-13 x 7 inch configuration in that family.
