1) How strong is a Grade 8 bolt compared to a Grade 5, and when do I need it?
Grade 8 is the step up when a Grade 5 will not hold. The JG8HC3 carries 150,000 psi minimum tensile and 130,000 psi minimum yield, with a hardness of Rockwell C33-39. Metallics calls it out for automotive and fleet work where tensile strength beyond Grade 5 is required. For general bracket and strut work a Grade 5 is usually enough; go Grade 8 where the joint is highly loaded or vibration-prone and you need the higher yield before permanent stretch.
2) Are these Metallics bolts Buy American or ARRA compliant for a government job?
