Metallics UBG018 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe or conduit size does the Metallics UBG018 U-bolt wrap around?
The UBG018 is described as a 3/8-16 x 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 U-bolt, so the 1-1/2 inch figure is the inside opening between the legs and 2-1/2 inches is the leg length. Measure the outside diameter of what you are clamping, not the nominal trade size, since 1-1/2 inch nominal pipe runs larger than 1-1/2 inches OD. For a tight wrap on round stock, match the opening to the actual OD.
2) Do the nuts come with the Metallics UBG018 U-bolt or do I order them separately?
Two hex nuts ship with each U-bolt, one per leg. They are Grade A nuts per ASTM A563, matched to the 3/8-16 UNC threads on the legs. Washers are not part of the assembly, so add those separately if your detail calls for them.
3) Will the UBG018 U-bolt qualify on a Buy American or federally funded job?
Yes. The UBG018 is made in the United States and is flagged compliant for both Buy American and ARRA requirements, which is what a government, school or healthcare procurement file normally needs on a fastener line item.
4) Is a galvanized U-bolt like this okay for outdoor or damp locations?
The UBG018 is steel with a galvanized finish, which is the usual choice for exterior runs, rooftop supports, damp mechanical rooms and unconditioned spaces. It is not stainless, so for coastal salt spray, pool chemistry or wash-down food areas, step up to a stainless U-bolt instead.
5) How many U-bolts come in a bag and what is the minimum I can buy?
The UBG018 is bagged 10 per bag, and 10 count is the order minimum. So one bag is the smallest purchase, with two nuts per bolt included in that count.
6) Can I get this Metallics U-bolt in a different opening size or leg length?
The UBG018 is the 3/8-16 x 2-1/2 x 1-1/2 configuration in the Metallics UBG series, and other sizes and quantities within the series are available by request. If your run is a different pipe diameter, ask for the UBG size that matches that OD rather than forcing this opening.
