1) Will the JCB28 satisfy a Buy American or ARRA requirement on a federal job?
No. The JCB28 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, with multiple countries of origin. On a federally funded project with domestic sourcing language, specify a domestic carriage bolt instead.
2) Is a zinc plated carriage bolt OK outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
JCB28 is zinc plated steel. That is fine for interior, covered, and intermittently damp locations such as mechanical rooms and under-canopy work. For sustained exposure to weather, chlorides, or wash-down, go to a stainless carriage bolt instead; zinc plating will eventually give up white rust and then red.
3) Does the Metallics JCB28 meet a dimensional spec I can put on a submittal?
Yes. It is made to ASME B18.5-1990, the dimensional standard for round head bolts including carriage bolts. That covers head diameter, head height, and square neck geometry, so it will seat in standard prepped holes and match other B18.5 carriage bolts on the job.
