Metallics UB012 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size are the legs on the Metallics UB012, and what nuts fit it?
5/16-18 right hand thread, cut to ANSI/ASME B1.1. Any standard 5/16-18 hex nut or 5/16 washer threads on. Two hex nuts ship with each U-bolt, Grade A per ASTM A563; if you want washers or lock nuts, add them separately.
2) Does the Metallics UB012 meet Buy American requirements for a federal job?
It is flagged as both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant, which is what a government or institutional procurement spec usually asks for. Country of origin is listed as multiple, so if your contract requires a single named origin, confirm the lot before submitting.
3) Are the nuts included with the Metallics UB012 U-bolt?
Yes, two hex nuts come with each U-bolt. What is not included is the backing plate or strap, so if your detail calls for one you order that separately.
4) Is the Metallics UB012 U-bolt OK outdoors or in a damp mechanical room?
It's zinc plated steel, which handles indoor and sheltered damp service. For continuous wet exposure, coastal air, or chemical environments, step up to stainless rather than zinc plated.
5) Can I use a Metallics UB012 U-bolt on plumbing or HVAC lines, or is it electrical only?
It is catalogued on the electrical side but the stated field application covers electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning. Mounting 1 inch conduit, 1 inch copper or steel pipe, or clamping a small line to strut are all within what it is made for.
6) How many U-bolts come in a bag of Metallics UB012?
Ten per bag, and ten each is the order minimum. Larger quantities and other sizes are available on request.
7) What size wrench or socket fits the nuts on the Metallics UB012?
The hex nuts measure 0.489 to 0.500 inch across the flats, so a 1/2 inch wrench or socket is the one to grab. Nut height runs 0.258 to 0.273 inch.
