Metallics JBHC95 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will these Metallics hex bolts meet a Buy American or ARRA requirement on a government job?
No. The JBHC95 is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant, and its country of origin is listed as multiple. On a federally funded project with domestic sourcing language, this bolt will not satisfy the requirement.
2) Can I use these zinc-plated bolts outdoors or in a wet location?
Zinc plating on the JBHC95 is a mild corrosion coating meant for dry interior and protected service. For rooftop, exterior or washdown locations, step up to hot-dip galvanized or stainless hardware in the same 7/16-14 size, since plated zinc will bloom and rust once it is exposed to standing water or chlorides.
3) How many bolts come in a jar and can I buy fewer than 100?
The JBHC95 ships as a jar of 100 bolts, and the jar is the minimum order quantity, so 100 pieces is the smallest buy. Other sizes and quantities are available by request.
4) How much grip length does a 1-1/2 inch hex bolt give me, and what thickness of material will it bolt through?
With a 1-1/2 inch length measured from under the hex head, the JBHC95 covers assemblies up to roughly an inch and a quarter of combined material once you allow for a washer and nut. For thicker stacks, strut sandwiches or through-bolting a beam flange, order a longer 7/16-14 bolt; other lengths in the BHC and JBHC series are available by request.
5) Does the JBHC95 come with nuts or washers?
No. The jar holds 100 hex bolts only. Nuts, flat washers and lock washers in 7/16 are ordered separately, so plan on those line items to complete the assembly.
6) What is the shipping weight of a 100-count jar of 7/16-14 x 1-1/2 hex bolts?
A full jar of the JBHC95 weighs 8.18 lbs, with jar dimensions of 4.5 x 7.25 x 4.5 inches. Useful if you are stocking a service van shelf or figuring freight on a multi-jar order.
7) What wrench or socket size do I need for these bolts?
The JBHC95 has a hex head on a 7/16-14 body, which under ASME B18.2.1 carries a 5/8 inch across-flats head, so a 5/8 inch socket or wrench drives it.
