Metallics JBHC97 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What strength grade are these Metallics 7/16-14 hex bolts?
Grade 2 steel. That is a low-carbon, general-purpose bolt, fine for strut, hangers, equipment mounting and routine bracketry, but it is not a substitute where a drawing calls for Grade 5 or Grade 8 on a structural or high-torque connection.
2) Will these Metallics bolts satisfy a Buy American or ARRA requirement on a public job?
No. The JBHC97 hex bolt is not Buy American compliant and is not ARRA compliant; country of origin is listed as multiple. If your contract carries domestic sourcing language, you need a certified domestic bolt instead.
3) Can these zinc plated hex bolts be used outdoors or in wet locations?
The finish is zinc plating over steel, which handles dry indoor and protected areas. Zinc plating is a light sacrificial coating, not hot-dip galvanizing, so for direct weather exposure, rooftops or damp vaults a hot-dip galvanized or stainless bolt is the better call.
4) How many bolts come in a jar of Metallics JBHC97, and can I buy less than a full jar?
They ship as a jar of 100, and the jar is the order minimum, so 100 pieces is the smallest quantity. The jar packaging keeps the 7/16 bolts together on a cart or in a gang box instead of loose in a bucket.
5) Do nuts and washers come with the JBHC97 bolts?
No. The jar contains 100 hex bolts only. Order 7/16-14 hex nuts and 7/16 flat or lock washers separately to complete the connection.
6) What kind of work are Metallics BHC/JBHC hex bolts intended for?
They are stocked for electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work, the everyday hex bolt used for mounting panels, strut, hangers, pipe clamps and equipment bases. The BHC and JBHC series is the same bolt in different pack formats.
7) How much does a jar of 100 of these 7/16 x 2-1/2 hex bolts weigh?
About 10.02 lbs for the jar, with packed dimensions of 7.25 x 4.5 x 4.5 inches. Worth knowing if you are staging several jars on a cart or figuring van load for a multi-floor rough-in.
8) Can I get this Metallics hex bolt in another length or a bulk box instead of a jar?
Other sizes and quantities in the BHC and JBHC hex bolt line are available by request. The JBHC97 itself is fixed at 7/16-14 x 2-1/2 in a 100-piece jar.
