Bolts M10 x 50 C10.9 Hx Tap Blt St-zn (Jar 50)
Features
- Used in automotive and fleet industries where greater tensile strength is required that can be achieved with a class 8.8 fastener
- A Hex headed extrnally threaded fastener with washer-face beneath the head, a metric thread pitch, made from high alloy steel and heat-treated. The threads on the shank extended all of the way to directly beneath the head.

Metallics JMHTB10501 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a Metallics JMHTB10501 M10 bolt thread into an M10 x 1.5 nut or tapped hole?
Yes. The JMHTB10501 is an M10 bolt with a 1.5 mm thread pitch, right hand thread, so it mates with standard M10 x 1.5 coarse nuts and tapped holes. Wrong-pitch M10 fine threads (1.25 mm) will not engage.
2) How much material can I clamp with a 50 mm long M10 class 10.9 tap bolt?
The JMHTB10501 has a 50 mm shank length measured under the head, and because it is a tap bolt the thread runs all the way up to the head. So the full 50 mm is usable: subtract your washer and nut engagement, or your tapped hole depth, from that 50 mm to get grip. There is no unthreaded shoulder to work around.
3) What is the difference between a class 10.9 bolt and a class 8.8 bolt?
Strength. The JMHTB10501 is class 10.9, rated 150,800 psi minimum tensile and 136,300 psi minimum yield, with a Rockwell C32-39 hardness from heat-treated alloy steel. Class 8.8 is the common medium-strength metric grade and runs materially lower, which is why 10.9 gets specified in automotive and fleet work where 8.8 will not carry the load. If your drawing calls out 8.8, a 10.9 is a stronger substitute but harder and less ductile, so follow the engineer's callout on anything structural.
4) What wrench or socket size do I need for these M10 hex tap bolts?
Hex head, and the head measures 16.73 to 17 across, so a 17 mm socket or wrench is the size to have on the truck. Standard six-point metric tooling fits it.
5) Does the head sit flat without a washer, or do I need to add one?
These Metallics hex tap bolts have a washer face formed under the head, which gives a flat clean bearing surface against the joint. That is not a substitute for a washer where you are clamping soft material, slotted holes, or painted surfaces, and no washers or nuts are included with the jar, so order those separately.
6) How many bolts come in the jar and can I buy fewer?
They ship 50 to a jar, and 50 count is the order minimum, so the jar is the smallest buy. Other sizes and quantities in the MHTB and JMHTB series are available by request.
7) Are zinc plated class 10.9 bolts OK for outdoor or wet locations?
The finish on these is zinc plating over steel, which handles indoor service and incidental moisture but is not a marine or long-term exposed-weather coating. For wash-down, coastal, or buried work, step up to hot dip galvanized or stainless. Note too that high-strength 10.9 fasteners are the grade most sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement and stress corrosion, so keep them out of chronically wet, loaded applications.
8) Do these Metallics bolts qualify for a Buy American or ARRA job?
The JMHTB10501 is flagged Buy American compliant and ARRA compliant in the product record, with China listed as country of origin. On a federally funded job where the specification requires domestic melt and manufacture rather than compliance by category, submit the origin to the spec writer before installing.
