Bolts M8 x 10 C10.9 Hx Tap Blt St-zn (Jar 100)
Features
- A Hex headed extrnally threaded fastener with washer-face beneath the head, a metric thread pitch, made from high alloy steel and heat-treated. The threads on the shank extended all of the way to directly beneath the head.
- Used in automotive and fleet industries where greater tensile strength is required that can be achieved with a class 8.8 fastener

Metallics JMHTB8101 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics JMHTB8101 M8 bolt threaded all the way to the head?
Yes. The JMHTB8101 is a hex tap bolt, so the thread runs the full length of the shank right up to directly beneath the head. There is no unthreaded grip section. That matters when you are bolting thin material or need maximum thread engagement in a tapped hole; if your joint needs an unthreaded shoulder in the shear plane, a partially threaded hex cap screw is the right call instead.
2) What does class 10.9 get me over a standard 8.8 metric bolt?
Strength. The JMHTB8101 is property class 10.9, rated at 150,800 psi minimum tensile and 136,300 psi minimum yield, with a hardness of Rockwell C32-39. It is the grade to use in automotive and fleet work where a class 8.8 fastener will not carry the load. Note that higher-strength alloy steel like this needs the correct torque spec; do not substitute it into a joint torqued for 8.8 without rechecking the values.
3) Does this M8 hex tap bolt need a separate washer under the head?
Not for load spreading against a flat machined surface. The bolt is made with a washer face beneath the hex head, which gives a clean bearing surface. If you are clamping soft material, slotted holes, or sheet, you will still want a flat washer, and the washer face does nothing for vibration, so add a lock washer or thread locker where that is a concern.
4) Will a zinc plated class 10.9 bolt hold up outdoors?
The finish is zinc plating over steel, which is a mild indoor and sheltered-use corrosion coating, not a marine or constantly wet exposure finish. For equipment rooms, shop floors, vehicle chassis and fleet work it is fine. Open weather, road salt or washdown areas will eventually take the plating down, so plan on stainless or a heavier coating in those spots. Keep in mind stainless will not match the 10.9 strength class.
5) How many bolts come in a jar of Metallics JMHTB8101, and can I buy fewer?
It ships as a jar of 100 pieces, and 100 count is the order minimum, so the jar is the smallest unit. The filled jar weighs 907 g. Metallics does make the MHTB and JMHTB series in other sizes and pack quantities on request if 100 of this size is not what you need.
6) Does the Metallics JMHTB8101 bolt qualify for Buy American and ARRA jobs?
It is flagged compliant for both Buy American and ARRA on the Metallics record, with country of origin listed as multiple. If your spec requires a documented single country of manufacture on the submittal, request the certification for the lot you are buying.
7) Is the thread on the Metallics JMHTB8101 right hand or left hand?
Right hand thread, metric pitch. Standard clockwise-to-tighten, so it works with any ordinary M8 tapped hole or M8 nut.
