Bridgeport Fittings BF-934 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will an aluminum SE cable strap work on round cable or conduit?
No. These straps are formed for oval service entrance cable and are meant to support that cable to the mounting surface. Round SE-R, round conduit, and EMT need a round strap or conduit clamp sized to the outside diameter instead. If the cable in hand is flat sided with a rounded profile, it is the oval SE this strap is built for.
2) Is a one hole aluminum strap enough, or do I need a steel two hole strap for a service run?
Aluminum one hole straps are the economy choice for supporting oval SE cable where the extra strength of steel or malleable iron is not needed, and Bridgeport says as much. A single fastener per strap means faster installs on a mast or wall run. Where the cable is exposed to physical abuse, heavy loading, or a location that will see impact, step up to a steel or malleable iron strap. Aluminum also avoids the dissimilar metal question when you are strapping aluminum conductor SE cable.
3) Are Bridgeport SE cable straps UL listed?
Yes, they carry UL Listing under file E30211709. They are also RoHS, REACH, and LEED compliant, and made in the United States, which covers the domestic sourcing line that shows up on a lot of institutional and government specs.
4) What fasteners come with Bridgeport one hole SE straps?
Fasteners are not part of the strap. You supply the screw or anchor to suit the substrate, whether that is wood siding, masonry, or a metal panel, and size it to the load. That is deliberate on a single hole strap, since the one fastener carries the whole support and the anchor has to match the wall, not the strap.
5) How much does an aluminum SE cable strap stand off the wall?
The strap measures 0.8125 in height and 0.26 in depth, so it sits close to the surface. That low profile matters when you are running SE cable up a wall behind a meter socket or tight to a soffit and need the cable held flat rather than bowed out. Finish is plain aluminum, uncoated.
6) How tight should an SE cable strap be tightened down?
Snug enough to hold the cable from moving, not so tight that the jacket is compressed or pinched. Over-driving the fastener on a one hole strap deforms the strap and bites into the sheath, which is the failure a rough-in inspection will flag. Set the cable in the strap opening so the oval seats fully, then draw the fastener down until the cable is captured.
