Blackburn GO6TB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Blackburn GO6TB ground clamp fit?
The GO6TB is built for 2 inch IPS pipe, which is iron pipe size, not outside-diameter tubing size. So it goes on 2 inch rigid conduit, water pipe, or a 2 inch IPS ground pipe. If your pipe is a different trade size, you need a different clamp in the series, because a U-bolt clamp only closes on the diameter it was formed for.
2) Is the Blackburn GO6TB clamp bronze, and can I use it on buried or damp grounding connections?
Bronze is the conductor material on the GO6TB, which is why it is the usual choice for water pipe and ground pipe connections where copper conductor meets a pipe electrode. Bronze against copper avoids the galvanic mismatch you get with plated steel or aluminum bodies in wet locations.
3) Is the Blackburn GO6TB made in the USA for jobs with domestic sourcing requirements?
Country of origin on the GO6TB is the United States, which is what a government or institutional buyer working to a domestic-content clause needs on the submittal.
4) Should I use a U-bolt clamp like the GO6TB or a strap-type pipe ground clamp?
A U-bolt clamp such as the GO6TB clamps down hard on a fixed pipe diameter, 2 inch IPS here, and gives a high-pressure metal-to-metal bite for a grounding electrode conductor. Strap or band clamps cover a range of diameters and suit odd or larger pipe where you cannot match a size exactly. If your pipe is 2 inch IPS, the sized U-bolt clamp is the tighter, more repeatable connection.
5) How is the Blackburn GO6TB sold, one clamp or a box?
Sold each. One GO6TB clamp per unit ordered, so if you are grounding several pipe risers count one per connection point.
