Buckeye Multi Purpose Dry Chemical Fire Extinguisher

Buckeye ABC dry chemical is a multipurpose extinguishing agent that is suitable for use on Class A, Class B and Class C fires. Not suitable for use on fires involving cooking oil and grease. Not recommended for use on sensitive electronic equipment or aircraft structure. The extinguisher nameplate incorporates bilingual operating and maintenance instructions. Industrial grade steel and aluminum cylinders with polyester powder coating designed to withstand harsh environments and rough usage. 10 lbs agent capacity. 4-A:80-B:C UL rating. 22 second discharge time. 15-feet to 21-feet discharge range. 195 PSI operating pressure. Wall hook included.

Class ABC fire extinguishers combat fires caused by common solid materials, flammable and combustible liquids and gases, and energized electrical equipment. Ordinary combustibles include wood, cloth, paper, rubber, and some plastics. Flammable and combustible liquids and gases include petroleum greases, tars, oils, solvents, lacquers, alcohols, oil-based paints, and flammable gases. ABC fire extinguishers are often used in offices, schools, and single-family and multifamily dwellings because of the variety of combustibles they combat.

Buckeye 13315 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What types of fires can the Buckeye multi-purpose dry chemical extinguisher handle?
This ABC-rated extinguisher works on Class A (ordinary combustibles), Class B (flammable liquids), and Class C (electrical) fires. The monoammonium phosphate agent interrupts the chemical chain reaction and coats burning materials.
2) Which size extinguisher should I choose for my application?
2.5lb units work for vehicles and small spaces. 5lb models suit offices and residential use. 10lb extinguishers handle larger commercial areas. 20lb units provide maximum coverage for industrial applications and high-hazard areas.
3) What is the discharge range and time for these extinguishers?
Discharge range varies by size from 5-20 feet. Discharge time ranges from 8-25 seconds depending on capacity. Larger units provide longer discharge time and greater reach for covering larger fire areas.
4) How should I mount and position the fire extinguisher?
Mount on brackets 3.5-5 feet from floor to top of extinguisher. Position near exits but not directly in escape paths. Ensure clear access and visibility. Check local fire codes for specific placement requirements in your area.
5) What operating pressure do these extinguishers maintain?
Buckeye extinguishers typically operate at 175-195 PSI when fully charged. The pressure gauge shows green when ready for use. Check pressure monthly and recharge when gauge drops below normal range.
6) Do these units meet fire code requirements for commercial buildings?
Yes, Buckeye extinguishers are UL Listed and meet NFPA standards. Verify your local fire marshal's specific requirements for extinguisher type, size, and placement density for your occupancy classification.
7) What replacement parts are available for maintenance?
Common service parts include discharge hoses, nozzles, pressure gauges, safety pins, and valve assemblies. Most components are field-replaceable by certified technicians. Check with manufacturer for specific part numbers and service kits.
8) How do I properly operate the extinguisher during a fire emergency?
Use the PASS method: Pull the pin, Aim at base of flames, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side to side. Stand 6-8 feet from fire. Approach slowly as flames diminish. Watch for re-ignition after discharge.
9) What maintenance schedule should I follow?
Inspect monthly for damage and proper pressure. Annual professional maintenance required by certified technician. Internal examination every 6 years. Hydrostatic testing every 12 years. Replace extinguisher if it fails any inspection.
10) Can I use this extinguisher on cooking oil fires?
ABC extinguishers work on cooking oil fires but may cause splashing. For commercial kitchens, Class K extinguishers designed specifically for cooking oils provide better results. Residential cooking fires can be handled with ABC units.
11) What are the temperature limits for storage and operation?
Store and operate between -65°F to 120°F. Extreme temperatures affect pressure and chemical effectiveness. Protect from freezing in unheated areas. Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources that exceed temperature limits.
12) How do I clean up after using a dry chemical extinguisher?
Vacuum or sweep up dry chemical residue. Avoid using water initially as it creates a slippery paste. Clean surfaces with damp cloth after removing bulk powder. Ventilate area well during cleanup.
