1) Will a Burndy YA272LN lug accept 3/0 AWG copper wire only, or can I use it on a larger conductor?
The Burndy HYLUG YA272LN is a single-size compression lug: 3/0 AWG stranded copper, and nothing else. The barrel is crimped, not adjustable, so a 4/0 or 2/0 conductor will not terminate correctly. It is built for copper code conductor, so keep it off aluminum and off DLO or welding cable.
