1) What conductor size does the Burndy B917 exothermic weld mold accept?
The B917 BURNDYWeld mold is cut for 4/0 AWG copper stranded conductor on the tap side. If your run is a different gauge, the mold cavity will not seat the cable correctly and you need a different mold; the graphite is machined to one conductor size, not a range.
2) Will this Burndy weld mold work on my bus bar, and what size bar does it need?
The tap side is sized for bus bar 1/4 inch by 1-1/2 inch and wider. A bar thinner or narrower than that will not give the mold a proper seat or heat sink, so measure the bar before ordering.
3) What weld metal charge do I order with the Burndy vertical overhead tap to bus mold?
It runs a 150 weld metal charge. The mold itself is the reusable graphite tooling only, so the charges are a separate consumable you buy by the box for the number of connections on the job.
4) What is the difference between the B917 and B5-72 BURNDYWeld molds?

The B5-72 is a horizontal cable through the top of a ground rod, which is the grid conductor running across a driven rod. Pick by the joint you are making, not by conductor size alone.
