1) Will the Burndy YA30 lug take 300 kcmil copper cable?
That is exactly what it is sized for: 300 kcmil stranded copper, code conductor. It is a copper-body compression lug, so it is for copper only, not aluminum. Strip the insulation back 2-1/16 inches so the conductor bottoms out in the long barrel.
2) Which die do I set my compression tool to for the YA30?
Die index 17 or 298. The lug is also marked with a white color code, so in the field you match the white die to the white lug rather than hunting for the number. Wrong die means an out-of-spec crimp on a 300 kcmil termination.
3) Can I use a 300 kcmil compression lug on a 15kV or 25kV medium-voltage termination?
The YA30 is rated up to 35 kV, which covers 15kV and 25kV class cable terminations as well as standard 600V work. It is UL Listed and CSA Approved to UL468A-468B.
4) Is the Burndy YA30 a mechanical set-screw lug or a crimp lug?
Crimp. Termination method is compression, so it needs a hydraulic or battery compression tool with die 17 or 298. If you want a lug you can install with a hex key and no tooling, you need a mechanical set-screw lug instead, not the YA30.
5) Is this lug good for a 90 degree C conductor termination?
Rated for 90 degrees C service, so it will not derate a 90 C rated conductor at the termination. Copper body, tin electro-plated for corrosion resistance on the contact surfaces.
6) What is the difference between a long barrel lug like the YA30 and a standard barrel lug?
Long barrel gives more crimp surface along the conductor, usually taking two crimps instead of one, which is what you want on medium-voltage and high-vibration industrial feeders. The YA30 is the long barrel version with an internal chamfer at the mouth so 300 kcmil strands feed in without birdcaging. A short or standard barrel lug does the same electrical job at 600V but gives you less mechanical hold.
7) Is the YA30 RoHS compliant for a spec job?
