Metallics IPB150 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size conduit does the Metallics IPB150 insulated bushing fit?
The IPB150 is the 1-1/2 inch size, so it threads onto the male threaded end of 1-1/2 inch rigid conduit. It screws on directly to the conduit threads, no adapter needed. For other trade sizes you need the matching size in the IPB series, not this one.
2) Do insulated bushings count toward Buy American or ARRA requirements on a public job?
The Metallics IPB150 is flagged both ARRA compliant and Buy American compliant, with United States country of origin. That is the documentation a government, school, or healthcare procurement file usually needs for a federally funded project.
3) Is the Metallics IPB150 bushing metal or plastic, and can I use it on rigid conduit?
It's plastic, and it's made for rigid conduit. The plastic body is what does the insulating work, giving a smooth rounded lip at the end of the raceway so conductors are not cut on the threaded edge as they are pulled.
4) How many bushings come in a pack of the Metallics IPB150?
They ship 50 to a jar, and 50 is the minimum you can order. That is one count unit, so a buyer stocking a van or an MRO crib gets a full jar rather than loose pieces.
5) Why would an inspector want insulated bushings on my conduit ends?
Bare threaded conduit ends leave a sharp edge that can nick insulation during a pull. The IPB150 caps the 1-1/2 inch thread with a rounded plastic shoulder so the conductors bear on a smooth surface instead of the cut thread, protecting the wire as it passes out of the raceway.
6) What does a jar of 50 of the 1-1/2 inch Metallics bushings weigh and how big is the package?
Figure 1.5 lbs for the jar, with package dimensions of 10 x 8 x 3 inches. Light enough to keep several sizes on the truck without eating weight allowance.
