Bussmann CDS Series Type D Time-Delay Fuse, 600V Knife Blade End

The Bussmann CDS Series Type D Time-Delay Fuse from Eaton Bussmann is engineered for reliable overcurrent protection in 600V electrical distribution systems. This time-delay, non-indicating fuse features Knife Blade End X Knife Blade End terminals for secure connection in compatible fuse blocks and disconnects. The CDS series is available across a wide amp rating range from 12A to 600A, giving specifiers flexibility to match circuit protection to load requirements on a single, dependable platform. Sourced through the Eaton Bussmann series lineup, this fuse is intended for professional electrical distribution and equipment protection applications that call for consistent, code-compliant circuit protection.

Key Features

  • Amp Rating Range: The Bussmann CDS Series is available in 16 amp ratings from 12A through 600A, covering 12A, 15A, 25A, 35A, 40A, 45A, 50A, 60A, 70A, 80A, 90A, 100A, 150A, 250A, 400A, and 600A options for precise circuit matching.
  • Type D Time-Delay Operation: Time-delay, Type D construction rides through momentary inrush and overload conditions while still opening on sustained faults, reducing nuisance fuse replacement.
  • Knife Blade End Terminals: Knife Blade End X Knife Blade End configuration provides a secure, low-resistance connection in compatible knife-blade fuse holders and switches.
  • 600V Rating: Rated for 600V applications, suited to industrial and commercial power distribution equipment.
  • Non-Indicating Design: Non-indicating fuse body keeps the design simple and cost-effective where blown-fuse indication is not required.
  • Eaton Bussmann Series: Part of the Eaton Bussmann series lineup, reflecting Eaton's fuse engineering and manufacturing standards.
  • Standard Packaging: Supplied in standard packaging for straightforward stocking and distribution.

Bussmann CDS100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will a Bussmann CDS fuse fit my ferrule-style fuse holder?
No. The CDS Series is built with knife blade ends on both terminals, so it only drops into knife-blade fuse clips, blocks, and disconnects. A holder made for ferrule (cylindrical cap) fuses will not accept it. Check the clips in your switch before ordering.
2) Which amp ratings does the Bussmann CDS Series come in?
Sixteen ratings, 12A through 600A: 12, 15, 25, 35, 40, 45, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 150, 250, 400, and 600 amps. Part numbers follow the rating directly, so a 60A is CDS60 and a 400A is CDS400. Note there is no 20A or 30A in the line, so if your circuit calls for those you will need a different series.
3) Can I use a 600V CDS fuse on a 240V or 480V circuit?
Yes. A fuse voltage rating is a maximum, so the 600V-rated CDS can be applied on any system at or below 600V, including 208V, 240V, and 480V. What you cannot do is use it above 600V.
4) Why would I choose a time-delay fuse instead of a fast-acting one for a motor circuit?
Motors, transformers, and similar inductive loads pull several times running current for a moment at startup. The CDS is a Type D time-delay fuse, so it rides through that inrush and short overloads without opening, then still clears on a sustained fault. A fast-acting fuse sized for running current would blow every time the motor starts. For purely resistive or electronic loads with no inrush, a fast-acting fuse is the better fit.
5) Will a blown Bussmann CDS fuse show any visual indication?
No. The CDS is a non-indicating fuse, so there is no pop-up pin or window to tell you which one opened. You will need a meter or a fuse tester to find the open leg. If your maintenance crew wants at-a-glance identification on a large switchboard, specify an indicating fuse instead.
6) I need to order a replacement Bussmann CDS fuse. How do I identify the right part number?
Read the amp rating off the fuse label and add it to the CDS prefix. CDS12 is the 12A, CDS100 the 100A, CDS250 the 250A, CDS600 the 600A. All ratings in the series share the same 600V, 10 kAIC, knife blade construction, so amperage is the only variable you need to match.
7) Can I standardize on the CDS Series across a whole facility's distribution gear?
For knife-blade 600V applications under 10 kA available fault current, yes. One series covers 12A branch circuits up to 600A mains, which keeps the spare parts crib to a single family. Typical placements are panelboards, switchboards, motor control centers, and OEM equipment. Where the fault duty is higher or the holders are ferrule type, you will still need a second fuse type on the shelf.
