Bussmann Eaton TPH Series Telecommunication Fuse, 170VDC Current-Limiting

The Bussmann Eaton TPH Series Telecommunication Fuse is a 170 Vdc current-limiting fuse engineered specifically for telecommunication power protection applications. Built with a non-indicating body and a 100 kAIC interrupting rating, this series uses a blade end X terminal configuration for mounting in compatible fuse blocks and disconnect holders used in DC power plants. The TPH series is offered across a wide amp rating range, from 70A through 600A, so electrical designers and telecom power technicians can match fuse selection to the exact load requirements of a given circuit while standardizing on a single, proven Eaton Bussmann platform for both feeder and branch-level DC protection.

Key Features

  • Amp Rating Range: Available in 70A, 80A, 100A, 125A, 150A, 200A, 225A, 250A, 300A, 400A, 450A, 500A, and 600A options, allowing a single series to cover both branch circuit and larger feeder protection needs.
  • Voltage Rating: Rated 170 Vdc, purpose-built for DC telecommunication power distribution systems rather than standard AC circuits.
  • Interrupting Rating: 100 kAIC interrupting capacity provides robust protection against high fault currents in DC power plants.
  • Current-Limiting Design: Current-limiting construction restricts fault let-through energy, helping protect downstream switchgear, conductors, and connected telecommunication equipment.
  • Non-Indicating Construction: Non-indicating fuse body for standard telecommunication power protection applications where a blown-fuse indicator is not required.
  • Termination: Blade end X terminal configuration for secure mounting in compatible fuse blocks and holders used throughout telecom power systems.
  • Series: Part of the Eaton Bussmann TPH series of telecommunication fuses, a family purpose-built for DC power protection.

Bussmann TPH-100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can a Bussmann TPH fuse be used on a 120V or 480V AC circuit?
No. The TPH telecommunication fuse is rated 170 Vdc and is built for DC power distribution, not AC circuits. If the panel you are protecting is AC, this is the wrong fuse family entirely. TPH belongs in a -48V DC telecom power plant, central office distribution, or similar DC feeder and branch protection.
2) Will a TPH fuse drop into my existing fuse block, or does it need a special holder?
TPH uses a blade end X terminal configuration, so it mounts in fuse blocks and disconnect holders prepped for that blade pattern. It is not a ferrule or cartridge-clip fuse. Confirm the block or DC distribution panel position is built for blade end X before ordering, since the terminal shape is what decides whether it lands.
3) Does the Bussmann TPH fuse have a blown-fuse indicator?
No. TPH is non-indicating construction, so there is no visible pin or flag and no alarm contact on the fuse itself. If your DC plant relies on fuse-mounted indication to flag an open circuit, or on an alarm pin driving a panel alarm, TPH will not provide it and you need an indicating telecom fuse instead.
4) What amp ratings does the Bussmann TPH telecom fuse come in?
Thirteen ratings across the range 70A to 600A: 70, 80, 100, 125, 150, 200, 225, 250, 300, 400, 450, 500 and 600 amps. Part numbers follow the amp rating directly, so a 225 amp fuse is TPH-225 and a 600 amp is TPH-600. That span covers both branch circuits and larger feeder positions in the same DC plant, so a facility can standardize on one series.
5) What is the interrupting rating on the Bussmann TPH telecom fuse?
100 kAIC. That is what lets it sit on a DC power plant bus where available fault current is high, such as a large battery string feeding a distribution bay. Check the rating against the calculated available fault current at the fuse position when the design engineer sizes the protection.
6) What does current-limiting mean on a telecom DC fuse, and why does it matter here?
A current-limiting fuse opens fast enough during a high fault to cut off the current before it reaches its full prospective peak, which holds down the let-through energy that reaches downstream gear. On the TPH, that protects the switchgear, conductors and connected telecom equipment on the load side. A standard non current-limiting device would let more energy through to the same equipment.
7) Is the Bussmann TPH suited to a data center or central office power system, or only telecom?
It is built for DC power protection generally, and typical placements include telecommunication power distribution, DC power plant feeder and branch circuits, central office and data center power systems, wireless and network infrastructure, and commercial and industrial electrical installations. The deciding factor is that the circuit is DC at or below 170 volts, not the type of building.
