Thomas & Betts CIC-8495 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Thomas & Betts CIC-8495 round box rated for outdoor or wet locations?
The CIC-8495 is a cast aluminum round box classified as a weatherproof box, so it is intended for exterior and damp/wet-location work where a sheet steel box would corrode. Cast aluminum is the usual choice for exposed surface-mounted outdoor devices and fixture outlets. Pair it with a matching weatherproof cover and gasket to close the enclosure out.
2) Does the CIC-8495 come with a cover, or do I order that separately?
The CIC-8495 is sold as the round aluminum box only, one each per order. Covers, gaskets, and any device or lighting-fixture canopy are separate line items, so add the weatherproof cover you need to the same order if the opening has to be closed up the same day.
3) What is the exact part number to order for the Thomas & Betts Iberville round aluminum box?
Order it as CIC-8495. It is a Thomas & Betts item carrying the Iberville sub-brand, which is the Canadian cast-metal line, so you may see it referenced as Iberville CIC-8495 on a distributor quote. Same part either way.
4) Is a cast aluminum box like the CIC-8495 the right choice over a PVC or die-cast zinc weatherproof box?
Cast aluminum is what most electricians specify for exposed exterior branch circuit and fixture outlets: it takes threaded conduit hubs, it is non-ferrous so it will not rust, and it holds up to impact better than nonmetallic. Choose PVC instead where you are running nonmetallic conduit and want a fully nonconductive system, or where the environment attacks aluminum (heavy chlorides, some coastal or pool chemistry). The CIC-8495 is the cast aluminum round option.
5) Can I use the CIC-8495 round box to hang an exterior wall light?
Round boxes of this type are the standard outlet for surface-mounted exterior luminaires and ceiling-mounted exterior fixtures, and the CIC-8495 is a cast aluminum round box in that family. Confirm the fixture's canopy diameter covers the box and that the fixture weight is within what the box and its mounting ears will carry before you commit.
