Cahaba CAFC36SBWIREGRID – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Cahaba sinks does the CAFC36SBWIREGRID grid actually fit?
The CAFC36SBWIREGRID is built for the Cahaba 36 inch single bowl farmhouse fireclay kitchen sink, models CAFC36SB and CAFC36SBUSS. It is sized to those bowls, measuring 31 inches wide by 13-1/2 inches in length/depth and 1 inch high, so it is not a general-purpose grid for other 36 inch sinks.
2) Will this sink grid clear a 3-1/2 inch kitchen drain opening?
Yes. The Cahaba 36 inch wire grid has its opening cut to accommodate a 3-1/2 inch drain, which is the standard kitchen sink strainer size, so a basket strainer or disposer flange sits through the grid without lifting it off the bowl floor.
3) Does the grid come with feet, or do I have to buy bumpers separately?
Rubber feet covers are included with the Cahaba 36 inch wire grid, so nothing extra is needed to keep the stainless legs off the fireclay glaze. That matters on fireclay, where a bare metal foot can scuff or chip the finish over time.
4) What is the grid made of, and will it rust in a wet sink?
It is 304 grade stainless steel with a polished chrome finish, which is the standard corrosion-resistant alloy for kitchen sink accessories sitting in standing water and detergent. Made in Italy.
5) I manage rental units with Cahaba fireclay farm sinks. Is a bottom grid worth specifying at turnover?
On fireclay it is the cheapest way to avoid chipping and scratching the bowl, which is the common failure on farmhouse sinks and the expensive one to fix. The grid keeps pots and cast iron off the glaze, and the included rubber feet covers stop the stainless frame itself from marking the finish. At 1.5 lbs it lifts out by hand for cleaning, so it is easy to standardize across every unit running a CAFC36SB or CAFC36SBUSS.
6) Is this grid the same thing as a sink rack that sits in the cabinet, or does it go in the bowl?
It is a bottom grid that sits inside the sink bowl on rubber-tipped feet, not a cabinet or counter rack. Height is 1 inch, so it raises dishes just off the sink floor to let water drain under them.
