Cahaba CASP26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the actual channel size of the Cahaba CASP26 linear shower drain?
The CASP26 body measures 26 inches long by 3-3/8 inches wide, with a 7/8 inch height. The 7/8 inch height is the number that usually decides the job: your mortar bed and tile thickness have to accommodate a channel that shallow while still holding slope to the drain, and the low profile is what lets the grate sit flush with a finished tile floor.
2) Will a 26 inch linear shower drain handle the flow from a multi-head or rain shower?
The CASP26 is rated to drain up to 9 gallons per minute. A single standard showerhead runs well under that, so one head is no issue. If you are running a rain head plus body sprays that together exceed 9 gpm, you are past what this channel will carry and water will pond on the floor. Add up the rated flow of every outlet in the valve before you commit.
3) Can a linear drain like the Cahaba CASP26 be set in natural stone or large format tile?
Yes. The CASP26 is made to finish into decorative tile, natural stone, and solid surface flooring. Because it is a flush mount channel, the grate sits level with the finished surface rather than sitting proud of it, which is the reason installers pick a linear channel for large format tile: you slope the floor in one direction to the channel instead of building a four-way slope to a center point.
4) Is the grate on this Cahaba linear drain removable for cleaning out hair?
It lifts out. The square grate on the CASP26 pulls free by hand for cleaning, and a basket filter is included underneath to catch hair and debris before it reaches the trap. For a rental or a multi-family unit, that matters: maintenance can clear it without tools and without pulling the drain body.
5) What finish does the Cahaba CASP26 come in, and can I get it in black or brass?
Brushed stainless steel is the only finish offered on the CASP26. There is no matte black, bronze, or brass option in this model, so if the spec calls for a dark or warm toned grate you need a different drain. The silver tone pairs with most chrome, polished nickel, and brushed nickel trim already in a bath.
6) Should I use a linear drain or a standard center point drain in a curbless shower?
A linear channel like the 26 inch Cahaba CASP26 lets the floor pitch in a single plane toward one wall or the entry, which is what makes large format tile and curbless, roll-in showers work. A traditional round center drain needs the floor broken into four sloped quadrants, so it forces small tile or mosaic in the pan. Pick the linear channel when the finish material is big or rigid; a center drain is simpler and cheaper when you are using mosaic anyway.
7) How durable is the stainless steel on the CASP26 grate for a commercial or high traffic shower?
The drain is stainless steel in 18 gauge, in a brushed finish. Eighteen gauge is a substantial wall thickness for a shower channel, so the grate holds up to being walked on and to repeated removal for cleaning. The brushed surface also hides water spotting better than a polished finish, which is why it reads well in hotel and multi-family baths where nobody is polishing a drain daily.
8) How much does the Cahaba CASP26 shower drain weigh?
It weighs 4.2 lbs. Light enough that one person can set and level it in the mortar bed without help, which is the practical question on a bathroom remodel where you are working alone in a small footprint.
