Cahaba CASS18UM16SB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size cabinet do I need for the Cahaba CASS18UM16SB bar sink?
Plan on a 20 inch minimum base cabinet. The sink itself measures 18 inches front to back and 16 inches wide overall, so a 20 inch cabinet leaves room for the undermount clips and the reveal on either side of the cutout. Anything narrower and you will not have material left for the mounting rail.
2) Can the Cahaba CASS18UM16SB be installed under a laminate countertop?
No. It is an undermount sink, which means it hangs below the counter and the cutout edge is exposed. That requires a solid surface top, granite, quartz, or similar. Laminate needs a drop-in or top-mount sink with a rim that covers the cut edge.
3) Does this Cahaba bar sink have a faucet hole?
No holes are punched in the deck. The CASS18UM16SB is an undermount bowl with zero faucet holes, so the faucet mounts through the countertop or the wall behind it. Drill the counter for whatever hole count your faucet and accessories need.
4) What comes in the box with the Cahaba CASS18UM16SB?
Drain assembly, undermount mounting hardware, and a cutout template all ship with the sink. A basin rack is not included, and there is no overflow drain. You will still need to supply the faucet, supply lines, and the P-trap and tailpiece to tie into the wall or floor rough-in.
5) Is this Cahaba sink approved for a commercial bar or breakroom?
No. Cahaba states the CASS18UM16SB is made for residential use only and should not be used in commercial applications. For a leased bar, restaurant, or a facility that gets inspected, spec a commercial-rated sink instead. It is fine in an apartment unit, clubhouse wet bar, or a home island.
6) How deep is the bowl on the Cahaba 16 inch bar sink, and will a tall bottle fit?
The bowl runs 7-3/4 inches deep with an interior of 16 by 14 inches and a 10 quart capacity. That is deeper than a typical prep sink, so a wine bottle or a cocktail shaker stands up in it without tipping. The drain sits center, which keeps the trap directly under the bowl and simple to plumb in a shallow bar cabinet.
7) Will the countertop hold this sink, and is it heavy to set?
At 8 pounds the CASS18UM16SB is a one-person set. The undermount panel is triple reinforced where the clips bite, which is what carries the load once it is anchored to the underside of the stone. Normal undermount practice still applies: support the bowl with a rail or blocking while the adhesive cures.
8) Can I use this Cahaba sink as a small second sink in a kitchen island?
Yes, that is a common use. It is a single rectangular bowl with rounded corners and a satin brushed stainless finish, sized at 18 by 16 inches overall, which fits an island or a prep station where a full kitchen sink will not. The rounded corners wipe out easier than a hard square radius.
9) Is there a template or drawing for cutting the countertop?
A cutout template ships in the box, and Cahaba publishes both a DXF product drawing and a specification sheet for the CASS18UM16SB. Fabricators can take the DXF straight to the saw rather than scanning a paper template.
