Callan Canova - Grade 3 Dummy Knob

A dummy knob is a pull only. The Callan Canova dummy knob has no latch and no moving mechanism, so it does not hold a door closed. It is a counterpart to functioning hardware or goes where a latch is not needed, typically the inactive leaf of a French pair, a false door, or a closet door held shut by a ball catch or roller catch. If your closet door needs to latch when you pull it shut, you want a passage knob instead, something like the Pamex FTF passage knobset or the Bravura Albany passage knobset.

The Canova is Grade 3 and catalogued for residential use, which puts it in single-family homes, apartment interiors, and light-traffic units rather than commercial corridors or institutional openings. Not on its own. A dummy has no latch and no privacy function, so it will not hold a bathroom or bedroom door shut and will not lock. Keep the Canova dummy for closets with catches and inactive French leaves.

A dummy is surface-applied trim, so it does not fill or use a 2-1/8 inch bore the way a cylindrical lockset does. If you are converting an opening that already has a working knob in a standard bore, pulling the lockset out and putting a dummy on leaves the bore hole exposed. A passage knob turns and retracts a latch, so it holds the door in the frame; a dummy does not turn anything and holds nothing. If the door is held by a catch, a magnet, or a bolt, or the leaf never moves, the dummy is the cheaper and simpler part and the Canova covers it.
