Camden Door Controls CM-7536SS/4 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Camden CM-7536SS push plate need a back box or electrical rough-in?
No back box. The CM-7536SS is a surface-mounted plate with leveling screws, and the housing is only 1-1/2 inches deep, so you mount it on the wall face and bring the wiring to it. That is what makes it usable on retrofits where there is no gang box in the right spot.
2) What does 'Top Load' mean on the Camden CM-75 push plate, and when can't I use it?
Top Load means the wire enters and the plate loads from the top of the column, so you need clear space above the unit to install and service it. If there is a handrail, ledge, soffit or anything else directly above the mounting location, a top load column is the wrong choice and you want a bottom or rear load version instead. Where the space is clear, it gives the lowest profile at 1-1/2 inches deep.
3) What size is the CM-7536SS plate, and how does the CM-75 series differ from CM-74?
The CM-7536SS is a 36 inch tall column plate, 6 inches wide, which is the CM-75 series width. The CM-74 series is the same style of column in a 4.5 inch width. Pick on how much wall you have between the door frame and the corner, and on matching the other actuators already in the building.
4) Will the Camden CM-7536SS switch directly trigger a low energy door operator?
Yes. It is an SPDT momentary, Form C contact rated 15 amps at 30 VDC, dry contacts with no voltage of its own, so it wires as a normally open or normally closed momentary input to an operator, mag lock relay or access control panel. The standard model is not a powered device, so nothing is drawing current until the plate is pressed.
5) Is the stainless steel Camden column plate CSA compliant?
OBC and NBC compliant, but the stainless steel model is specifically noted as not CSA compliant. Painted and other finish versions of the column carry OBC, NBC and CSA. If a Canadian job calls out CSA on the actuator, the stainless version will not satisfy it.
6) What graphic is on the Camden CM-7536SS faceplate?
It comes engraved with the wheelchair symbol and 'PUSH TO OPEN', which is the standard barrier free actuator marking for a public entrance. No separate label kit is needed.
7) Can I get this Camden column plate touchless or wireless instead of a mechanical push?
The CM-75 column is offered with a built-in touchless activation sensor, and with Kinetic or Lazerpoint wireless transmitters. Those are ordered as options on the column, so decide before you order: the CM-7536SS as specified is the hardwired mechanical push switch.
8) What is the difference between the standard and VR versions of the Camden CM-75 column switch?
Standard models are unpowered dry contact switches, SPDT momentary Form C, rated 15 amps at 30 VDC. VR models take 12 to 24 VDC plus or minus 10 percent for the visual and audible feedback, and their contacts are rated 1 amp at 30 VDC with common, N.O. and N.C. terminals. If you are switching anything above 1 amp, use the standard switch or relay it.
9) Is a stainless steel push column durable enough for a hospital or school entrance?
Stainless steel is the substrate here, and it is a commercial rated actuator, which is why it gets specified for high traffic entrances where painted plates scuff and get cleaned constantly. The 36 inch column also puts the strike surface within reach from a wheelchair and from standing height on the same plate, so one unit serves both.
