The keeper opening is 1-9/16 inches by 7/8 inches (40mm x 22mm), and the strike is rated for a 7/8 inch latch projection. If the existing latchbolt throws more than 7/8 inch or the latch face is wider than 1-9/16 inches, it will not seat correctly. Most standard cylindrical latches at 1/2 to 5/8 inch throw fall well inside that.
