Camden Door Controls CM-333/42 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Camden SureWave CM-333 touchless switch run off my existing 24VDC access control power supply?
Yes. The CM-333 accepts 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, so it lands on the same low-voltage supply that already feeds your operator or maglock. Draw is 40 mA, so it adds almost nothing to a supply's budget. It's a line powered switch, not a battery-only device.
2) Can the CM-333 wave switch switch a door operator relay directly, or do I need a separate relay module?
It switches directly for most operator and maglock jobs. The CM-333 carries one onboard relay rated 3 amps at 30 V, dry contacts, with multi-function action. If your load is above 3 amps or is line voltage, run the switch's contact into a slave relay instead of wiring the load through the switch.
3) What size box does the Camden CM-333 wave plate mount to?
Four faceplate formats are offered: single gang, double gang, a narrow plate for mullions and door frames, and a 6 inch round. The narrow plate is the one to order when there is no wall space and the switch has to go on a tube frame or mullion; the round is a surface-look plate. Pick the format to match the box or mounting surface already in the wall before you pick finish.
4) Is the Camden SureWave CM-333 rated for outdoor entrances?
No. The CM-333 is specified for indoor, commercial use. For an exterior vestibule door, put the switch inside the weather line or specify a switch rated for outdoor exposure instead.
5) Does the Camden CM-333 fail open or fail secure if power drops?
Field selectable. You set fail-safe or fail-secure behavior at the switch during commissioning, so the same part number covers an egress opening that has to release and a secured opening that has to stay locked. Nothing to specify differently at order time.
6) Can I wire my card reader or exit button into the Camden CM-333 so the door still opens when the wave switch is bypassed?
Yes. The switch has REX and door position (DPS) inputs, so a request-to-exit device or a reader output can trigger the same relay, and the DPS input lets the switch see door state rather than just timing out blind. That keeps a single switch as the activation point for the opening instead of paralleling separate devices at the operator.
7) What finishes and battery options do I have to choose when ordering a CM-333/42 wave switch?
Three choices decide the part number: finish (black or stainless steel), faceplate size (single gang, double gang, narrow, or 6 inch round), and battery type (alkaline or lithium). The /42 faceplate graphic itself is fixed, hand icon with 'Wave to Open' text and the wheelchair symbol. Lithium is the L1 suffix, for example CM-333/42SL1 for stainless single gang with lithium.
8) Will the CM-333 hold a door open for a set time, or does it just pulse?
Both. Relay operating modes are event and toggle: event gives a timed activation for a normal wave-through, toggle latches the relay on until the next wave, which is how you hold a door open for a delivery or a move-in. Hold open timers are adjustable on the unit.
9) Does the Camden wave switch trigger on people just walking past it?
Range is adjustable, which is the fix for that. The CM-333 uses active infrared air sensing with an adjustable operating range and selectable motion sensing, so you can tighten detection down on a switch mounted in a tight corridor where traffic passes close to the plate.
10) Can a Camden CM-333 wave switch work without running wire back to the door operator?
There's a wireless transmitter option on the CM-333, which is the route when fishing wire from the switch location to the operator is not practical (a retrofit through masonry, or a switch on a glass wall). The switch itself is still line powered at the switch location; wireless covers the signal path, not the power.
11) Is the /42 faceplate the right one for an ADA accessible entrance marking?
The /42 plate carries the hand icon, 'Wave to Open' text and the wheelchair symbol together, which is the graphic most facilities specify at an accessible entrance so the actuator reads to a user with no touch cue. If you want a plate without the wheelchair symbol, that is a different faceplate code in the CM-333 series.
12) How much wall space does a Camden CM-333 switch take up?
The unit measures 5.5 x 5.25 x 2 inches and weighs 0.4 lb, so it clears easily on a standard gang box location. On a narrow mullion or a glass frame stile, order the narrow faceplate format rather than the single gang.
13) What is the difference between the lithium and alkaline battery versions of the CM-333?
Battery type only, and it is a suffix decision at order time: L1 part numbers ship lithium, plain part numbers ship alkaline. Both are available in every faceplate size and both finishes, so a facility standardizing on one battery chemistry across a building can hold that standard through all four plate formats.
14) Can I add a light ring to the Camden CM-333 so staff can find the switch in a dim corridor?
Yes, a light ring is an available option on the CM-333. It's worth specifying on back-of-house corridors, parking level vestibules, and any opening where the plate sits away from a light source.
