SUREWAVE CM-325 SERIES HAND ICON/'WAVE TO LOCK' TEXT/WHEELCHAIR SYMBOL FACEPLATE TOUCHLESS SWITCH

The CM-325 from Camden is a short-range hands-free switch that’s part of the Sure-Wave Hands-Free Switches line. This wired momentary switch comes with two infrared sensors that will detect body and hand motion. It uses Camden’s ‘microburst’ sensing technology to give the most accurate readings. The switch has an adjustable time delay of anywhere between 1 to 5 seconds and a response time of 100 MS.

As a short-range switch, it’s activation range is from 2” to 18” and it can be set to be either a failsafe or fail secure. This is a single relay switch.

Camden Door Controls CM-325/43S – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What voltage does the Camden CM-325 touchless switch run on, and how much current does it draw?
The CM-325 SureWave switch accepts 12VAC/DC, 24VDC or 24VAC, so it can share the same low voltage supply as most maglocks and strikes. Draw is 40 mA, small enough that it adds almost nothing to an access control power supply budget.
2) Will the Camden CM-325 fit a standard single gang electrical box?
Yes. Faceplates come in single gang, narrow, and double gang, so you can match whatever box or mullion you are working with. Single gang is the standard box mount, narrow suits a door frame or narrow mullion where there is no room for a full plate, and double gang covers an existing 2-gang opening.
3) How close does a hand have to be for the SureWave CM-325 to activate?
It is a short range switch, activating from 2 inches out to 18 inches, using two infrared sensors that read hand and body motion with Camden's microburst sensing. Response time is 100 ms. That short range is deliberate: it keeps passing foot traffic from tripping the door, but it does mean users have to bring a hand up to the plate rather than just walk past.
4) Is the CM-325 fail safe or fail secure?
Field selectable, so the installer sets it on site rather than ordering a specific version. That matters on egress doors: fail safe drops the lock on power loss, fail secure holds it. Set it to match the code requirement for the opening you are wiring.
5) Can a wave switch be used to lock a door, not just unlock it?
That is exactly what the 43 faceplate is for. It carries a hand icon, the text 'Wave to Lock', and the wheelchair symbol, so it is labeled for a wave-to-secure application such as a restroom or single-occupancy accessible room where the user locks the door behind them. Pair it with the toggle relay mode so one wave latches the state instead of just momentarily pulsing.
6) What is the difference between event mode and toggle mode on the CM-325?
Event mode gives you a momentary output with an adjustable time delay of 1 to 5 seconds, which is what you want for a door operator or strike release. Toggle mode latches the relay on one wave and releases it on the next, which is how you get wave-to-lock behavior on a restroom door. The relay is multi function, so both modes live in the same unit.
7) Does the CM-325 accept a door contact or request-to-exit input?
Yes, it takes both REX and door contact inputs. That lets the switch know the door position, so on a wave-to-lock restroom you can have the lock state reset when the door opens rather than leaving it latched after the occupant leaves.
8) Can this touchless switch go in a wash-down or wet area?
It is rated to NEMA 4, which covers hose-directed water and dust, so it holds up in restrooms, kitchens and wash-down areas as well as exterior sheltered entries. Faceplate finish is stainless steel, which is the usual choice for those same environments.
9) What are the overall dimensions and weight of the Camden CM-325 switch?
Published figures are 5.5 x 5.25 x 2 inches and 0.4 lb. The 2 inch figure is the depth you need to account for behind the plate, so check your box depth and any wiring already stuffed into it before you commit to the location.
10) Is the CM-325 a wired switch or does it transmit wirelessly?
The CM-325 is a wired momentary switch, so it needs low voltage run to it and a wired connection to the lock or operator. It does carry wireless communication capability as well, but plan the job around running wire to the plate.
11) Is the Camden CM-325 suitable for a commercial building, or is it a residential product?
Commercial. It is built for commercial access control work, with a NEMA 4 rating and a stainless faceplate, which is why it turns up in healthcare, education and multi-family common area openings rather than houses.
