1) What bend radius options does the Carlon 4-inch Type B telecom duct elbow come in?
Two radii: 24 inch and 36 inch. The 24 inch is MPN TW9DN and the 36 inch is TW9FN. Both are 4 inch nominal 90 degree bends in white PVC. Pick the radius off your cable's minimum bend spec and the room you have in the trench or vault. On big fiber or large copper pulls the 36 inch sweep pulls easier and keeps tension down; the 24 inch is the choice when the turn has to happen in a tighter footprint.
2) Will a 4-inch Carlon telecom elbow join to my existing 4-inch PVC duct run?
It is sized 4 inch nominal and made of PVC, so it mates with 4 inch nominal PVC duct of the same type using the manufacturer's joining method for that duct. Match nominal size and duct type on both sides of the joint; a 4 inch bend does not adapt down to 3 inch or 2 inch runs without a reducer.
3) Is this a telephone duct elbow or a standard electrical conduit elbow?
It is a telecommunications duct bend. Carlon builds the TW9 as a Type B 90 degree telephone duct elbow in 4 inch nominal PVC, with the long sweep radius that telecom cable pulls need rather than the tight elbow used on branch circuit conduit. If you are turning power conductors in a raceway, use a standard PVC conduit elbow instead.
4) Why does the sweep radius matter on a telecom duct bend?
Cable has a minimum bend radius, and forcing it around too tight a turn damages the conductors or fiber during the pull. The Type B design uses a bend radius meant to protect cable through the turn, and you get the choice of 24 inch or 36 inch to suit the cable. During install, keep the routed cable within that radius through the elbow and test the pull for smooth movement before you close everything up.
