Carlon E240RF – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What trade sizes does the Carlon P&C duct coupling come in?
Four trade sizes: 3 inch (E240L), 4 inch (E240N), 5 inch (E240P), and 6 inch (E240RF). Match the coupling trade size to the duct you are joining, since these are belled couplings sized to the duct OD, not interchangeable between sizes.
2) Will a Carlon E240 coupling work on both EB and DB duct?
Yes. The P&C coupling is specified for use with all types of EB and DB duct, so the same coupling covers encased burial and direct burial runs in a matching trade size.
3) Is the Carlon E240 duct coupling metal or plastic, and will it corrode underground?
It is non-metallic, so there is nothing in it to rust or corrode in a direct burial or concrete encased run, and it does not create a metallic path between duct sections. Color is gray to match standard duct.
4) Do I need solvent cement with Carlon P&C duct couplings, or do they come with anything?
The coupling is supplied as the fitting only. Solvent cement for the joint is bought separately, as are any spacers, bell ends, or adapters the duct bank layout calls for.
5) I'm standardizing a duct bank on a site. Can one coupling type cover all my runs?
For EB and DB duct, yes on the fitting type: the P&C coupling is rated for all EB and DB duct, so you only stock one coupling family and vary the trade size (3, 4, 5, or 6 inch) by run. If any part of the bank uses Schedule 40 or 80 conduit, that section needs its own Schedule 40/80 couplings.
