1) What size Carlon E942 female adapter do I need for 3/4 inch PVC conduit?
Trade size is what you order by, and the Carlon E942 female adapter runs 1/2 inch through 6 inch. For 3/4 inch conduit the part is E942E. The rest of the range: E942D (1/2), E942F (1), E942G (1-1/4), E942H (1-1/2), E942J (2), E942K (2-1/2), E942L (3), E942M (3-1/2), E942N (4), E942P (5), E942R (6). Two long line versions are also offered, E942NX9 in 4 inch and E942RX in 6 inch.
2) How does a PVC female adapter connect PVC conduit to a metal box or rigid steel fitting?
One end is a socket, the other is female thread. The socket takes the PVC conduit and gets solvent cemented; the female threaded end screws onto the male thread of a rigid metal nipple, a threaded hub, or a threaded fitting. That is the whole point of the E942, moving from non-metallic conduit into a threaded or metallic system. It has no outer thread, so if the box side needs a male thread going into a knockout, this is not the piece, you want a male terminal adapter instead.
3) Is the Carlon E942 female adapter Schedule 40 or Schedule 80?
Schedule 40, with a 0.15 inch wall. If your run is Schedule 80 PVC for physical damage protection, the socket outside diameters are common between schedules so it will still glue up, but the adapter itself carries the Schedule 40 wall thickness, which is the thing an inspector looks at when the spec calls for 80 throughout.
4) Are Carlon PVC female adapters UL listed for electrical conduit?
Yes. The E942 female adapter carries UL listing under file E23018, which is the listing electrical inspectors and MRO specs look for on PVC conduit fittings. That matters on institutional and commercial jobs where every fitting in the raceway has to be listed, not just the conduit.
5) What is the difference between the standard E942 adapter and the long line version?
Length. The long line adapters, E942NX9 in 4 inch and E942RX in 6 inch, have a deeper body than the standard E942N and E942R. Contractors reach for them on large-diameter runs where the extra socket depth gives more glue surface and more room to work the joint. For a straightforward 4 inch or 6 inch termination, the standard E942N or E942R does the job.
6) Does the Carlon E942 female adapter come with a gasket or seal it wet locations?
There is no sealing element in the adapter, no gasket and no O-ring. The socket side seals by solvent cement, and the threaded side seals on the thread engagement, so if the location calls for a watertight termination you supply the sealant or an appropriate sealing washer at the threaded connection. Plan for that on outdoor pull boxes and below-grade transitions.
7) Will a gray PVC female adapter match the conduit already on my building?
