1) How many wires can I legally put in a Carlon SN-357 3-gang box?
The SN-357 gives you 56.5 cubic inches of volume, and NEC box fill is calculated against that number: 2.25 in3 per 14 AWG conductor, 2.5 in3 per 12 AWG. So 56.5 in3 works out to 25 conductors at 14 AWG or 22 at 12 AWG before you deduct for devices, grounds, and clamps (each yoke counts as two conductors of the largest wire in the box). With three switches and their grounds deducted, you still have plenty of room for a multi-gang switch bank fed and switched with 12/2 and 12/3.
