Carlon SRTC-050 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size conduit or cable does the Carlon SRTC-050 strain relief connector work with?
The Carlon SRTC-050 is a 1/2 inch nonmetallic strain relief connector, so it lands on standard 1/2 inch trade size knockouts and 1/2 inch liquidtight flexible conduit runs. It is a straight connector, not a 45 or 90, so plan the conduit approach to come straight into the box.
2) Is the Carlon SRTC-050 metal or plastic, and will it hold up outdoors or in a corrosive area?
It is PVC, not metal. That is the reason to pick it over a steel or die cast liquidtight connector: no rust, no galvanic issues at the box, and it does not carry a bonding path. In wash-down areas, water treatment plants, or coastal exteriors the nonmetallic body is the point. If your design relies on the fitting for equipment grounding continuity, use a metallic connector instead and pull a separate bonding conductor here.
3) Can I use the Carlon SRTC-050 on a liquidtight flexible conduit run?
Yes, that is what it is built for. The SRTC-050 is intended for liquidtight flexible conduit systems at 1/2 inch trade size, terminating the whip at the enclosure while relieving strain on the conductors. Match it to 1/2 inch liquidtight, not to rigid PVC pipe sizes.
4) What is the difference between a strain relief connector and a plain liquidtight conduit connector?
A plain connector just terminates the conduit at the enclosure. A strain relief connector like the Carlon SRTC-050 clamps and grips so pulling or vibration at the cable is taken by the fitting rather than by the terminations inside the box. Use it where a cord or conduit whip feeds a motor, pump, vibrating machine, or anything that gets moved or bumped. For a fixed run that never sees mechanical load, a standard connector is enough.
5) Does the Carlon SRTC-050 thread into a box, or does it need a locknut?
It is a threaded connector, so the male hub threads into a 1/2 inch tapped hub or through a knockout with a locknut in the usual way. The threaded body is what gives the mechanical attachment; the strain relief clamp handles the cable side.
6) What part number do I order for the Carlon 1/2 inch nonmetallic strain relief connector?
Order Carlon SRTC-050. That is the manufacturer part number for the 1/2 inch gray PVC threaded strain relief connector, and it is the single configuration, so there is no finish or length choice to make on the order.
