Red Dot VAG-01-C – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Red Dot VAG-01-C and what does it include?
The VAG-01-C is a vaportight ceiling outlet box cap with a globe, rated for a 100 W lamp. The cap and globe ship together as one unit, so you get the fixture cover and the enclosing glass globe in a single order. It is a lighting accessory for an outlet box, not a complete lamp and box assembly, so the lamp itself is a separate buy.
2) Can I use a bulb larger than 100 watts in a Red Dot VAG-01-C vaportight globe?
No. The VAG-01-C is rated for 100 W, and a vaportight globe traps heat inside the enclosure, so over-lamping risks the globe and the lamp. Stay at or below 100 W. If you need more light out of the same opening, use an LED lamp whose wattage is 100 W or less.
3) Is the Red Dot VAG-01-C suitable for a wet or corrosive location like a car wash or coastal walkway?
It is built for that kind of exposure. The cap is copper-free aluminum with stainless steel screws for increased corrosion resistance, which is what you want in salt air, wash-down areas, and damp parking structures. Copper-free aluminum matters specifically because trace copper is what drives pitting in marine and chemical environments.
4) Is the Red Dot VAG-01-C UL listed?
Yes, it carries UL listing E51152. That is the detail an institutional or MRO buyer needs for an inspected job, and it is worth recording on the submittal along with the VAG-01-C model number.
5) Is the Red Dot vaportight cap and globe sold as a set or do I order the globe separately?
One order gets you both. The VAG-01-C is sold each, and that each is the cap and globe together. For a multi-unit property standardizing on one vaportight ceiling fixture across laundry rooms, stairwells, and breezeways, order one per outlet box location.
6) Will the Red Dot VAG-01-C mount on a ceiling box or does it need a wall box?
It is a ceiling outlet box cap, so it is intended to mount to a ceiling-mounted box. For a wall or stem application you want the corresponding vaportight unit configured for that orientation rather than this ceiling version.
7) What is the exact part number and manufacturer for this vaportight ceiling globe?
Red Dot is the manufacturer and VAG-01-C is the manufacturer part number, with UPC 042269500150. Country of origin is Mexico. Distributors cross-referencing a quote should use VAG-01-C exactly, since the Red Dot vaportight line uses closely similar designations for wall and stem configurations.
