Metallics JC12CSS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics JC12CSS jack chain stainless steel or plated steel?
The JC12CSS is stainless steel jack chain in #12 size, supplied in 100 foot lengths. Stainless is the version to specify for damp, washdown, coastal, or exterior hanging where a zinc-plated chain would rust out.
2) How much chain comes in one box of Metallics JC12CSS?
One box holds a continuous 100 foot coil of the #12 stainless jack chain, so a single box covers a full run of fixture drops without splicing lengths together.
3) What is #12 jack chain normally used for on an electrical job?
Jack chain in #12 size is the light hanging chain electricians use to drop strip fixtures, high bays, and shop lights from a deck or joist, and for suspending signs and light assemblies. The links open and close with pliers, so you cut the run to length on site instead of ordering fixed drops.
4) Can I use stainless jack chain outdoors or in a corrosive area?
Yes. Because the JC12CSS chain is stainless rather than zinc-plated, it holds up in exterior, high-humidity, food-processing, and coastal environments where plated chain streaks and corrodes. Match your S-hooks and hanging hardware in stainless too, since mixing plated fasteners with stainless chain puts the corrosion right back at the connection point.
5) Does the JC12CSS chain come with hooks or mounting hardware?
No. The JC12CSS is chain only, 100 feet of it in a box. Order your S-hooks, screw eyes, beam clamps, or toggle anchors separately, and size them to the #12 link so the hook closes fully through the link.
