Metallics JC12SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Metallics JC12SS jack chain stainless steel or plated steel?
Stainless steel. The JC12SS is a #12 jack chain in stainless, so it's the version to use for damp, outdoor, or corrosive locations where a plated or galvanized chain would rust at the link bends.
2) How much chain comes in one box of Metallics JC12SS?
One box holds a single 50 foot length of the #12 stainless jack chain. Pack type is a box, so plan quantities in 50 foot increments when you're hanging a run of fixtures.
3) What is jack chain like this #12 stainless used for on an electrical job?
Jack chain is the light suspension chain electricians use to hang strip and industrial fixtures, signs, and light loads from a ceiling or structure. The JC12SS is #12 gauge in stainless steel, cut to length from a 50 foot box, and links open with pliers so you can set drop heights without special tooling.
4) Should I order the stainless JC12SS or a galvanized jack chain for an indoor dry warehouse?
For a dry indoor warehouse a plated or galvanized #12 jack chain does the same job. The stainless JC12SS earns its keep outdoors, in wash-down areas, food processing, pool rooms, coastal sites, and anywhere chlorides or humidity will attack a coating. If the run crosses from conditioned space to outdoors, running stainless throughout keeps one part number on the truck.
5) What is the Metallics part number for the 50 foot #12 stainless jack chain?
Order it as Metallics JC12SS. That is the manufacturer part number for the #12 stainless jack chain supplied as a 50 foot box, and it is the number to quote on a distributor order or submittal.
