Metallics JC10SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How much chain comes in one box of the Metallics JC10SS?
One box of the JC10SS is a single 50 foot coil of #10 jack chain. It is packaged as a box, so ordering one gets you the full 50 foot length rather than a cut-to-order piece.
2) Is the Metallics JC10SS jack chain stainless steel?
Yes. The JC10SS is the stainless steel version of Metallics #10 jack chain, which is what you want for damp, washdown, coastal or corrosive locations where a plain or zinc chain would rust out. Same #10 size, 50 foot coil.
3) What is jack chain used for on an electrical job?
Jack chain is the light duty double-loop chain electricians use to hang fixtures, drop lighting, signage and light suspended runs from a ceiling or structure. The Metallics JC10SS is the #10 size in a 50 foot coil, and because the links are open formed you can twist one open with pliers to break the chain at any length instead of cutting it.
4) Does the JC10SS chain come with hooks, S-hooks or mounting hardware?
No. The JC10SS is 50 feet of #10 jack chain and nothing else. Plan on ordering your own S-hooks, quick links, screw eyes or ceiling anchors separately to hang it, and match those in stainless as well if you picked the stainless chain for a corrosive or outdoor location.
5) Is #10 jack chain strong enough to hang a light fixture?
#10 jack chain is a light duty suspension chain, sized for fixtures, signs and small hanging loads, not for lifting, rigging or overhead load bearing use. For anything heavier than a typical light fixture, step up to a heavier chain or use aircraft cable. The JC10SS is supplied in a 50 foot coil.
