Metallics JC14 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How much chain comes in a box of Metallics JC14?
One box of the Metallics JC14 holds a 100 foot coil of #14 jack chain. It ships as a single boxed unit, so one order quantity gets you the full 100 feet rather than a cut length off a reel.
2) Is the JC14 jack chain galvanized for damp or outdoor locations?
It is galvanized steel. That zinc coating is what lets jack chain hang in a parking garage, warehouse, or covered exterior area without flashing rust the way bare steel would. For fully submerged or corrosive chemical environments you would want stainless instead.
3) What is #14 jack chain normally used for on an electrical job?
Jack chain in the #14 size is the light duty hanging chain electricians use to suspend strip fixtures, high bays, shop lights, and signage, and to support light runs of conduit or cable where a rigid hanger is not practical. The links open with pliers, so you can break the 100 foot coil into whatever drop lengths the job needs without a cutting tool.
4) Do I get hooks or S-hooks with the Metallics JC14 chain?
No. The JC14 is chain only, 100 feet of galvanized #14 jack chain in a box. S-hooks, screw eyes, toggle or beam clamps, and any fixture hanging hardware are ordered separately.
5) Is the Metallics JC14 sold by the foot or only as a full coil?
Full coil. The JC14 is a 100 foot box, one boxed unit per order quantity, not a cut to length item. If you are hanging a row of fixtures, buy by the number of 100 foot boxes the total drop length works out to.
6) What part number do I order for Metallics 100 foot galvanized jack chain?
The manufacturer part number is JC14, from Metallics. That single number covers the item; there are no finish or length options to specify, since the chain is offered in galvanized steel at 100 feet per box.
