Metallics JC6 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need S-hooks or connectors to install the Metallics JC6 chain?
The JC6 ships as chain only, 100 feet of it. Any S-hooks, quick links, screw eyes, ceiling hooks, or fixture hanger hardware for terminating the drop are separate items you'll need to add to the order.
2) What size and length is the Metallics JC6 jack chain?
The JC6 is a #6 jack chain supplied in a 100 foot length, one box per order. Jack chain size numbers run inversely, so a #6 is a lighter chain than a #2 or #3 of the same style.
3) Is the Metallics JC6 chain galvanized for damp or unheated areas?
It's galvanized steel, so the zinc coating gives it reasonable corrosion resistance for garages, unheated warehouse bays, and damp indoor locations. For wet exterior or corrosive environments, stainless would be the better call.
4) Can I use the JC6 jack chain to hang light fixtures or strut?
Jack chain like the JC6 is the common choice for suspending lightweight items: strip and high bay fixtures on a chain-hung install, signage, guard chain, plant hangers, and temporary barriers. It is a single-wire twisted link chain, not a load-rated lifting or rigging chain, so don't use it for hoisting or overhead lifting.
5) How does the JC6 chain come packaged, and is it one continuous length?
One box, containing a single 100 foot coil of #6 galvanized jack chain. You cut it to the lengths your job needs, which is why it's practical for an electrician hanging a row of fixtures at varying drops off one purchase.
6) Is there more than one size option for the Metallics JC6?
No. JC6 is a single model: #6 galvanized steel jack chain in a 100 foot box. If you need a heavier or lighter gauge, that's a different Metallics jack chain part number rather than an option on the JC6.
