Thomas & Betts SCV-5 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the SCV-5 just the cover, or does it include the conduit body and gasket?
What you get is the stamped aluminum cover plate alone, sold each. The conduit body itself and any gasket are separate line items, so if you are replacing a damaged cover on an existing 2 inch Series A or B body that is all you need, but a new installation needs the body ordered too.
2) Can I use an aluminum conduit body cover on a galvanized steel or iron body?
The SCV-5 is stamped aluminum. Standard trade practice is to keep the cover material the same as the body to avoid galvanic corrosion at the sealing face, so pair it with aluminum Series A or B bodies. On a ferrous body in a damp or outdoor location, use the matching ferrous cover instead.
3) Is the SCV-5 conduit body cover UL listed?
UL is the certification carried on the SCV-5 cover, which is what most inspectors and institutional specs look for on conduit body components. It is also RoHS compliant.
4) Will a stamped aluminum cover like the SCV-5 give me a weatherproof seal outdoors?
The cover alone is a stamped aluminum plate. For a wet or damp location you need the gasket between the cover and the body, ordered separately, plus the screws; the plate by itself is not a seal. Indoors on a dry run, cover and screws are enough.
5) How are these 2 inch conduit body covers packaged for a bulk order?
Covers come 25 to an inner pack and 100 to the outer carton, though they are sold individually. A full 100 count runs 25.5 lbs, useful if you are stocking a service truck or standardizing cover spares across a facility.
