3) Will the HA-401 thread onto EMT or does it need rigid conduit?
Threaded rigid conduit. The HA series is a threaded fitting, so it mates with the NPT threads on rigid or IMC. Plain-end EMT has no thread and needs a set-screw or compression connector instead.
4) I need to bring rigid conduit into the side of a junction box at 90 degrees. Does the HA fitting handle that?
That is exactly the termination case it covers. The HA is used where the run changes direction or lands at a box or fitting, so it takes the turn for you instead of field-bending the rigid. Match the fitting size to the conduit trade size, from 3/8 inch up to 1-1/2 inch.
5) Is a zinc plated iron conduit fitting suitable for damp or outdoor locations?
Zinc plated iron is the standard corrosion finish used on rigid conduit fittings and matches galvanized rigid conduit in general indoor and normal outdoor work. For corrosive or chemically aggressive areas, specify a PVC-coated or malleable-with-coating fitting instead.
