A strike anchor is drilled with a bit matching the anchor's nominal diameter, so a 1/2 inch anchor takes a 1/2 inch carbide bit and the anchor drives straight through the fixture into the hole. Length is chosen by adding your fixture thickness to the embedment you want. 4) Can I use CONFAST strike anchors in block or brick, or is it concrete only?
The SA strike anchor is made for concrete and masonry substrates, so poured concrete as well as masonry. In hollow block the anchor has to land in a solid web or grouted cell, since an expansion anchor needs solid material around it to develop hold. Face-shell-only placement in hollow block is the wrong application for this type.
5) Is a strike anchor the same thing as a wedge anchor or a drop-in anchor?
They are three different fastening approaches. A strike anchor like the CONFAST SA is driven through the fixture into the hole and set by striking it, expanding at the base. A drop-in is set flush in the concrete first and then takes a separate machine bolt, which lets you remove the bolt and the fixture later. A wedge anchor is a stud-type anchor tightened with a nut. If you need the fastener to be removable and the hole reusable, a drop-in is the better choice; for a one-time permanent fix through a fixture, the strike anchor is faster.
6) What is the shortest CONFAST strike anchor available, and is it enough for a thin bracket?
The shortest is 1/4 x 1-3/4 inch, sold 100 per box. At that length most of the anchor has to go into the concrete, so it works for thin light-gauge brackets, conduit straps and similar. Anything thicker than about a quarter inch of fixture is better served by the 1/4 x 2-3/8 or the 5/16 x 2-3/4, which give you more length to work with while staying in the small-diameter range.
