Cooper Lighting SELW25 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the Cooper Lighting SELW25 emergency light be installed outdoors or in a wash-down area?
Yes. The Sure-Lites SELW25 is UL924 wet location listed, so it is code compliant for outdoor and wet-location egress: building exteriors, loading docks, covered walkways, parking structures and outdoor stairwells. The silver thermoplastic housing resists corrosion and weather exposure. Operating range is 0 C to 40 C, so it is not a freezer or sub-freezing application.
2) How far apart can I space SELW25 emergency lights along an exterior walkway?
Each SELW25 provides 25 to 29 feet of emergency egress coverage, so spacing is laid out against that figure along the path of egress. The rotatable accuLED optics let you aim the beam down the walkway or across a stair landing at install time rather than relying on fixed heads.
3) What is the difference between the Cooper Lighting SELW25 and the Lithonia EU2L-REM-M12 emergency light?
The Cooper Lighting SELW25 is a UL924 listed wet location LED emergency light in a silver thermoplastic housing, rated 120-277V at 1.4W, and set up for ceiling or wall mount with 25 to 29 feet of egress coverage from rotatable accuLED optics. The Lithonia EU2L-REM-M12 is a low profile LED emergency light from Lithonia's Contractor Select series in ivory white. If the opening is outdoors, under a canopy, or otherwise exposed to weather, the SELW25 is the one carrying the wet location listing.
4) Is the SELW25 a ceiling fixture or a wall fixture?
Both. The SELW25 is configured for ceiling or wall mount, and it includes an easy hang feature that cuts install labor by letting the housing hang while you make up the connections. Fixture size is 8.125 in x 2.938 in x 8.125 in.
5) Does the battery in the Cooper SELW25 need periodic service?
No scheduled battery service. The SELW25 uses a sealed nickel cadmium battery that is maintenance free, which is the main reason it gets specified on hard-to-reach exterior and parking structure locations.
6) I have old halogen emergency units on site. Is the SELW25 a sensible replacement?
Yes, and the load difference is large. Units like the Dual-Lite LZ2 run 10W halogen lamps; the SELW25 is an LED head rated 1.4W total with no lamps to replace. The SELW25 also accepts 120/277V like the LZ2, so the existing feed works, and its wet location UL924 listing lets you use it where the old interior unit was not rated.
7) If I am standardizing a facility on LED emergency lights, which units pair with the Cooper SELW25?
Pair the Cooper Lighting SELW25 with the Lithonia EU2L-REM-M12 low profile LED emergency light for the interior locations. The SELW25 covers the exposed exterior positions with its UL924 wet location listing and silver thermoplastic housing on 120-277V, and the EU2L-REM-M12 is an LED unit as well, so the whole facility stays off halogen lamp replacement. The Dual-Lite LZ2 uses 10W halogen lamps and would reintroduce lamp maintenance into the program.
8) How many Cooper SELW25 emergency lights come in a case?
The SELW25 ships 28 units per case, with 224 per pallet, which is what you want to know when ordering for a multi-building retrofit rather than a single opening. Ordered under manufacturer part number SELW25.
