Watts 718002 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What pipe size does the Watts 718002 Rionfuse coupling fit?
The Watts 718002 is a 2 inch coupling, so it joins two ends of 2 inch Blueline FRPP pipe. Wall thickness on the fitting is 0.22 inch, which is what you match against the pipe run so the fusion joint seats correctly. It is size-specific, not a reducing or transition fitting.
2) Is the Watts 718002 coupling threaded or solvent welded?
Neither. It is a Rionfuse connection, meaning the coupling is electrofusion joined to the pipe rather than threaded or glued. You need the matching fusion equipment on site, so plan the install around that rather than around a solvent cement schedule.
3) What material is the Watts Blueline 718002 coupling made from?
The body is FRPP, fiberglass reinforced polypropylene. That is the same material family as Watts Blueline pipe, which is why the fusion joint works as a homogeneous connection rather than a mechanical seal with a gasket to age out.
4) Do I need anything besides the coupling to make the joint?
The 718002 supplies the coupling only. A Rionfuse joint also needs the fusion control unit and leads to energize the fitting, plus pipe ends squared and scraped per the Watts procedure. Budget the tooling separately if your crew has not run Blueline before.
