Orange is the die color code for this barrel. The lug body is marked orange so the installer can match it to the correct compression die set and nest in the crimp tool, and an inspector can verify the right die was used from the indent color. It is a crimp lug, not a mechanical set-screw type.

A short barrel takes a single crimp and keeps the overall length down, which matters when you're terminating inside a crowded panel, gutter, or CT cabinet where bending radius and clearance to the enclosure wall are tight. Long barrel versions take two crimps and give more pullout strength, which is what you want on vibrating equipment or where the spec calls for a two-indent termination. The CTL30-12 is the short barrel type.
5) Does the CTL30-12 come with the bolt and hardware to land it?
No. The lug is the copper terminal only, sold as a single piece. The 1/2 inch bolt, nut, Belleville or flat washer for the stud connection, plus any antioxidant compound and heat shrink or tape for the barrel, are separate. Crimping also needs the correct die for the orange color code.
6) How many CTL30-12 lugs do I need to order for a three phase plus neutral feeder?
One per conductor at each end. Each lug terminates a single 3/0 conductor, and they ship each, not in packs. A 3/0 three-phase-plus-neutral feeder terminated both ends is eight lugs, plus whatever the ground needs.
